Dental implants for missing teeth
Missing teeth can have a dramatic affect on the appearance and the health of your smile. If you have lost a tooth in an accident or as a result of dental health issues then you are not alone. Here in Australia tooth loss is common amongst the population and the majority of adults are missing an average of four to five teeth as a result of decay or disease. In fact 4% of the adult population have no natural teeth at all. To address the problem of missing teeth, much research and development has been carried out in the field of dental implants Ryde. First introduced over 60 years ago, dental implants Ryde are able to provide a permanent solution to replacing your missing teeth. They are described as being the gold standard in tooth replacement therapy and last for the whole of the patient’s life. If you would like to find out more about dental implants then you need to speak to us at Spa Dental Ryde and book an appointment with one of our highly trained dentists to find out if dental implants are a suitable treatment option for you.
Dental implants Ryde comprise a minimally invasive treatment procedure for which we will carry out a thorough examination of your teeth and gums to begin with, to help identify any dental health issues which need to be addressed prior to the surgery. We will carry out any restorative dental treatment to ensure optimal oral health, treating any signs of decay or disease. You will then undergo X-rays and photographs of your mouth to help us with the procedure. The X-rays will show whether or not you have sufficient healthy jawbone to hold the implant in place. Many patients require bone grafting prior to dental implant surgery and this is especially the case for those who have lost their teeth and then avoided the dentist for a long period of time. Tooth loss can result in bone decay and this can cause further complications to your dental health. If you do not have sufficient healthy bone then we will carry out bone grafting prior to the surgery and this may require time to heal or you may be able to have dental implant surgery at the same time depending on the extent of grafting necessary.
How do dental implants work?
The dental implant is a small titanium component which is inserted directly into the bone socket of the missing tooth. You may require only one dental implant or a few dental implants to replace a number of missing teeth at the same time. Once the implant is inserted into your jawbone a natural healing process known as osseointegration allows the implant to be fixed into place. This process requires between 3 to 6 months depending on your body’s ability to heal. During this time you will visit our dentist at regular intervals to make sure the process is coming along successfully. Once our dentist is happy that the implant has healed completely then you are ready to replace your missing tooth with your choice of dental prosthetics.
