Tips on getting the most from Invisalign aligners
Most people are at least partially familiar with the process surrounding the wearing of traditional metal braces. But, nowadays, the majority of dental surgeries can offer their patients invisible aligners instead of fitted orthodontic braces. Thus allowing patients to have a bit more freedom when it comes to orthodontic care.
Unlike braces, aligners do not require tightening or adjusting and will reduce the number of times you need to visit our team. They are visually discreet too, making them ideal for the majority if not all of our adult orthodontic patients.
When you come to Spa Dental, our dental team will always aim to provide you with the orthodontic care that you want, based on any aesthetic requirements that you have. For the majority of our adult patients, we are happy to offer Invisalign Ryde, as up to 97% of all adult orthodontic cases can be corrected using this aligner.
But you will require some guidance on how to get the most from this aligner and in this article, our team provides some basic tips on how to ensure you get the best results from wearing Invisalign Ryde.
22 hours or more!
Invisalign Ryde is a removable aligner, which means you can take it out as and when you want to. For the aligner to work correctly, our team generally recommends wearing it for 22 hours a day or more and only removing it when you are eating food or drinking beverages that are not water. You will also need to take it out when you are brushing your teeth or attending a dental check-up with our team.
Take pictures
This comes with an associated app which is downloadable for smartphones. To minimise your trips to see our dental team, you should be taking photos of your smile at least once a week and sending them to us via the app. This will allow us to assess whether or not the treatment is working as planned.
Cleanliness is key
You also need to keep your aligners clean, and this is easily done by rinsing them under a cold tap. While it can be tempting to try to remove more deeply set stains using hot water, this should be avoided as it can cause the aligners to warp out of shape. Also keeping your aligners clean prevents the development of tooth decay and gum disease.
Stay in touch
While you won’t need to see our dental team as regularly as you would with fitted braces, you will still need to stay in touch with us, not only via the app, but you will need to see us on average every 6 to 8 weeks. This will allow us to assess if the treatment is working as predicted and whether or not there are any secondary complications which may be impacting the efficiency of the aligner.
Report concerns
If you have concerns that the aligner is not working as planned, is too loose or too tight, or you simply need information about maintenance or other areas of this orthodontic tool, feel free to get in touch with our team.
