Invisalign aligners
First you will need to undergo an intraoral scan of your mouth to put together a digital image that will help us to determine how many aligners and how many attachments you need in order to create a neatly aligned smile. Each aligner is designed to move your teeth by approximately 0.25 to 0.3 mm. The aligners work in a series and little by little push your teeth until they reach their ideal position. It is important that you wear your aligners for a minimum of 22 hours per day for 10 to 14 days depending on your prescription. Remember that not wearing your aligners for long enough or moving onto the next aligner before you have put in the time requested can slow down the treatment and affect the end results. A great tip is that if you were unable to wear your aligners properly on one of the days then add an extra day for that aligner before you move onto the next one in the series.
A popular choice of teeth straightening
Invisalign aligners are clear and they are almost invisible when they are in your mouth. This means you can straighten your teeth at your discretion without drawing any unwanted attention to your mouth. This is one of the reasons why Invisalign is such a popular method of treatment. More than 14 million adults have already straightened their teeth using Invisalign and it continues to be one of the most popular choices across the world. They can be taken out of your mouth if necessary, but it is better not to remove them except for at mealtimes. At mealtimes they must be removed before eating or drinking anything other than water. The plastic can become easily stained or damaged and having to replace an aligner can affect your treatment time.
Looking after your aligners
Invisalign aligners are very easy to clean and our dentist will recommend that you brush your aligners with your regular toothbrush and toothpaste in cold water when you brush your teeth after each meal. We do not recommend using hot water to clean or sterilise your aligners as this may cause them to warp or distort. You will also be provided with cleaning crystals with which you can make up a cleaning solution to soak your aligners from time-to-time. When you are not wearing your aligners you should place them in the case given to you to prevent them from becoming scratched or damaged. It is also important that you keep your previous aligner each time you move on to the next one in the series in case you damage your current aligners. You can wear the previous ones until you receive a replacement for the existing ones. Each aligner is numbered for your ease and convenience. Speak to us at Spa Dental Ryde to find out more.
